What is it?

It is the device that holds the LCD on the wall. Typically, it comes in a kit, the kit usually contains wall brackets and the hardware required to mount the TV to the wall brackets. Usually, it is constructed out of tempered steel and is not bendable.

Types

There are three major types of mounts. The first type is the simplest and the easiest to install. A stationary mount does not move at all, once it is installed to the wall and the LCD TV is put in place there is no movement. The next type of mount is the swivel mount. The final type is the motion mount. The motion mount swivels from side to side and also can be moved up and down and on several angles this is the most difficult to install.

Cost

The cost is largely dependent on which model it is. The most expensive has the most motion. The least expensive is the stationary model. In most cases, the kit will run right around one hundred dollars and just a little extra for the better models.

Installation

Installation is a two person job, one person will have to help to lift the TV and place it once the installation of the mount is complete. A kit will come with step by step instructions for installation. A power drill will be useful in the process as will a stud finder.

TV Bracket Installing on a Concrete Wall

People warn about screwing to a wooden wall that is empty in the back. The screws have nothing to hold on to aside from the thin plasterboard and once the heavy TV is mounted on the wall bracket, there is a high risk that the weight will pull the brackets out of the wall instantaneously. Can the same situation happen on concrete? People think that a concrete wall is sturdier than a wooden panel. A concrete wall might not be as flimsy or easily torn by the weight but it is still susceptible to breaking loose from the heavy weight of the TV. Take note that concrete walls make use of hollow blocks with cement poured through their openings. If your screws attach to the previous openings of the hollow blocks, it is not very stable regardless the poured cement. It is not as solid as a stud. As much as possible, look for the studs and screw the brackets firmly into the beam. The LCD TV brackets have been tested for different sizes and weights, and will definitely be able to sustain the specified models. What is doubtful is whether the wall, that the brackets are attached to, is strong enough to hold the metal plate and TV brackets. Cement is definitely firmer than wood but it can be loose if you happen to screw the wall mount on an open space in the hollow block.

The other aspect you should consider about a concrete wall is the exposure of the cables and wires. If you had the foresight to decide where your flat TV screen would be located on the cement wall while the house was under construction, you should have had a conduit run through the wall. A conduit is a protective pipe that makes it easy to pull wires through. You can set up several conduit pipes in different rooms and when you need to run wires, all you need to do is locate the conduit pipe and insert the wires into the pipes. The pipe is set behind the wall and once situated, cannot be changed or relocated without destroying the wall. Another option is to have the pipe outside the wall and paint or decorate it so it blends with the wall and decor. The wires are neatly stacked inside the pipe and are out of sight, making for a neat and orderly appearance. In addition to the TV brackets, you can have other brackets to install your speakers. You can also consider wireless speakers so you don't have wires running all over the walls.

There are models of TV wall brackets with boxes for the wires and cables. You can install the wire box at the same time the wall brackets are being installed. Provide some space behind the TV or you will have a difficult time connecting the cables and wires. Another alternative is to connect the wires and cables before mounting the TV onto the TV wall bracket. Be sure everything is in place and functioning properly because once you hang the TV on the LCD bracket, you will not be able to access the cables and wires easily. If you have a concrete wall that has been covered with wallboard, you may be able to cut out a channel and then repaint the area once completed. After you've planned out everything and put all the aesthetics in place, you can mount the flat screen brackets to the concrete wall. Don't assume the concrete wall can hold the TV brackets firmly in place. Use a stud finder and locate the studs. Use the masonry drill to make the holes for the mounting brackets. Be sure everything is straight and level. If you make a mistake in the placement of the holes, plug it with cement and start again. Once the holes are done, put plastic anchors in the holes. A #8 plastic anchor in gyp rock may be able to hold 325 pounds in concrete. Put more anchors if needed and to be doubly sure, put adhesive to the anchors when you insert them in the holes. You can apply cement to secure the screws and fastenings. Make sure the cement and adhesive are dry and settled before applying any weight on the wall clamps. Play safe and use the studs or cement the wall on top of the screws to ensure they remain firmly in place.

Wall mounting your Plasma or LCD TV can be achieved in five easy steps. Tools required are a ratchet set for the mount screws, drill, level or tape measure, sheet rock knife (if placing wires in the wall).

Step 1) Determine where you want to mount your TV. Consider a place where direct sunlight will not hit the TV. You may also want to think about where you can position the speakers to get the best surround sound and where the best arrangement for seating. General rule is that the seating distance should be 1.5 times from the diagonal size of the TV. When seated the bottom of the TV should be at eye height.

Step 2) Now that you know where the TV will be located, the next step is to locate the studs in the wall. It is very important that your TV mount be securely fastened to a stud and not just the wallboard. The easiest way to the studs is to buy a stud finder ( at Home Depot).

Step 3) Now that we know where the TV will be and where the studs are in the wall, we need to determine how to run the cables from your equipment to where the TV will be on the wall. One option is to run the cables in the wall. Another option is to use a cable cover then texture and paint the cover to match the wall. If running cables in the wall, cut a hole where the TV will be and cut a hole where your equipment will be. Make sure the holes do not cross over a stub unless you plan on drilling a hole in the stud for the cables to run through. Run the wires in the wall.

Step 4) Now that the wires are run and we know where the mount needs to be, the next step is to connect the mount to the wall. Make sure that the mount is level, either by using a level or my measuring from the floor to each side of the mount. Also make sure the screws go into the studs and that you drill starter holes for the screws so that you do not crack the studs. Most mounts come with the screws and tell you which size holes to drill.

Step 5) Last step is to place the TV on the mount. This is actually the hardest step, make sure you have help with this step as it is difficult to see the mount and lift the TV at the same time.

The AS2S is a bi-shelf cable management system. It can be used with or without a Plasma/LCD mount. This unit is designed to fit under your display and provide an on wall solution for other components such as cable boxes, DVD players, game consoles, and stereo components. There are three 2 1/4-Inch holes on the aluminum plate. These holes allow you to cleanly run your cables up to your TV or down to another component, as well as out the bottom to an outlet. After reviewing our competition we realized that most shelving units need to be mounted directly into a wall stud. In most cases the wall stud is placed to the right or to the left of the display, which is not where most people prefer to have their shelves mounted. This is still the most secure option however, after significant research we’ve found that using the correct toggle bolts can allow you to mount your shelving unit wherever you see fit. With the combination of four of these toggle bolts, the shelving unit is able to hold well over 70LBS safely. Each individual toggle bolt provides 75lbs of support. Please note a good toggle bolt is still only as good as the quality of the drywall it is mounted to. If you have water damage or ¼-Inch drywall please add a support for your shelving unit.

TV Bracket Installation

Once you decide where to mount the LCD TV, you might consider concealing the audio and video cables and power cord to make things look neat and orderly. Some wall mounts have peripheral cable boxes that can be placed below them. Most people prefer running the wires along the wall. There are wire covers with strong adhesive that can stick the wires to the wall. You can color the wire covers with a color similar to the wall to make the covers blend with the wall. If the wall bracket provided in the package is specific to the TV model, you might have to replace the TV bracket with another one designed for the new TV. Try using the universal mount so you don't have to concern yourself with changing TV wall brackets every time you change TVs.

Lcd Wall Brackets

When assembling the TV bracket, attach a horizontal support to a wall angle module using two bolts, four lock washers, and two nuts. A lock washer should be next to each bolt head and each nut, to ensure the bolts are secured and will not loosen. Tighten the nuts using the Allen wrench on the hole in the head of the bolt and the open-end wrench on the nut. Do this process for all corners, and make sure both wall angle modules are oriented the same direction, with the slot in the mounting hole to the bottom. Be sure there is nothing breakable or risky below the area where you will place the TV wall bracket. No matter how careful you are, accidents can happen and the TV might fall off the wall brackets and damage anything below it.

Lcd Wall Brackets

When constructing a house, the architect sets the studs a standard distance apart from each other. Once you locate a stud, it may be easy finding the location of the other studs. Use a stud finder to facilitate the work. Use a level to ensure the TV bracket is level and straight. There are different TV wall brackets and you should find one that fits the distances of your studs. Securing the TV bracket to the studs ensures it is firm and will not give way to the weight of the TV. Mark the location of the eight holes you will be using for the lag bolts. Use the electric drill to drill small holes in the marked positions. The drilled holes should be smaller than the size of the bolts. All eight holes should be firmly embedded in the center of the studs. Position the TV wall bracket over the holes, with its flat side against the wall, and attach the TV brackets to the wall.

Attaching the LCD TV bracket to a concrete or brick wall is a similar process. You will use cement anchors instead of lag bolts when attaching the TV wall brackets to the cement wall. Avoid using holes that are closer than two inches from a mortar joint. If the holes are close to a joint, the anchors may become loose. Insert the anchors in the holes and set them with a concrete anchor tool and hammer. Be sure everything is firmly screwed in and securely in place. Test your installation by pulling on the brackets carefully and check if the connections feel loose.

Get some people to help hold the LCD TV in place while you attach it to the TV wall mount. A flat panel screen can be very heavy depending on its size. The TV wall mount may have inclination holes and bolts to adjust the angle of the TV. Be sure the holes and bolts on both sides of the TV mount are matched on the same angle; otherwise the TV will be uneven. Once the angle is fixed, tighten all the bolts and screws that should be fixed and immovable. Make sure all bolts and screws are tight every step of the way.

This is a very substantial mount with Dual arms and heavy guage steel. The arms extend over 20-Inch from the wall yet fold to less than 5-Inch. Even at full extension, this mount has very little sag or twist. It is rated for up to 165lbs and most displays 55-Inch and smaller weigh under 100lbs. The unit has dual tilt adjustment knobs and it will tilt forward or back 15 degrees. The wall plate is 19-Inch wide and has wide slots making it easy to mount into standard 16-Inch studs even if they are not exactly 16-Inch apart. To Mount Or Not to Mount - TV Stand Vs Wall Mounting

So, you just bought that new Plasma TV.  Now you are forced to make a decision - do I go for glamour and mount this thing on my living room wall or go the traditional route with a TV stand.  Each option has its risks and its rewards, so here we will examine the pros and cons of each.

Doesn't it just make sense if your TV is only a few inches deep to mount that sucker right above the fireplace for all to see?  Maybe, but consider what it takes to wall mount a flat screen.

1.  Purchase a wall mounting kit from a Plasma Dealer.

2.  Make sure said kit fits your TV.  If you don't do this, it will either cost you time or plaster.

3.  Locate the studs behind the wall.  Again, if you miss this, you will be the proud owner of a smashed TV set.  The screws must go into studs, not just sheet rock.

4.  Make sure that you measure and level everything BEFORE you screw any holes.  This will be very hard to change later.  In fact, I dare say you won't do it a second time, but rather you will live with a slightly-croocked mounted Plasma or you will just give up and buy a TV stand.

5.  Now, actually screw the mount into the wall.

6.  Cut a hole behind the TV to run wires through and another hole wherever the wires need to come out.  Fish the wires through the holes using either a snake tool or a stretched wire hanger.  Yes, I'm serious about this step.  If you're going to mount it, mainly for looks, don't leave wiring showing.  It just won't be worth it.

7.  Attach the pieces of the mounting system that affix to the TV.  Then, gently set the television into the mount bracket.  You may want another person there with you for this.

8.  Test everything.  Make sure the TV works, the mount is secure, and the television is secure in the mount.

The Blessed Simplicity of the TV Stand

Well, that was interesting.  Now, let's review the steps involved in setting up a TV stand.

1.  Purchase a TV stand that best fits the location at which you wish to display your TV.  Make sure you take into account the weight and depth of the television, as well as any accessories you might attach to it.

2.  Have it delivered and setup.  Sure, you could drive it home yourself and put it together, but you have better things to do in life - like watch your huge Plasma-screen TV.
